About Killeen, Texas & Harker Heights
Located about 69 miles north of Austin and 56 miles southwest of Waco, Killeen is situated in Bell County. It is the largest city in Bell County with an estimated population in 2009 of 119,510, which is a 37.5% increase over its year 2000 population. Harker Heights is a smaller city just east of Killeen with a 2009 population of 26,026.
Killeen is home to the Fort Hood US Army base. Fort Hood was officially opened in 1942 and is one of the largest military bases in the world. Troops from Ft. Hood serve around the world including the Middle East.
A large portion (about 48%) of the local population is renters, making Killeen an excellent place for income property investment and there is an active construction market for 2-4 family properties.
